Essential Oils for Your Medicine Cabinet
by Christa McCourt
Today, we're constantly bombarded with so many choices for medications. From TV commercials to
drug stores, we're left deciding upon medications for pain, diarrhea, nausea, upset stomachs, colds
and flu and so on.
How do you know which products are best? And why the heck do we need so many?
I've wasted so much precious time in the past searching for the perfect medication. I'm big on reading
ingredients and possible side effects, so it can take quite some time reading a label
on a bottle of over-the-counter medicine.
I have found that by using essential oils, I have replaced all of my over-the-counter medications. And,
now, I don't fear getting any side effects.
Fortunately, today we have access to more essential oils than at any time in the past. Many people
around the world are benefiting greatly from the use of therapeutic grade essential oils.
And I am one of them.
I feel blessed to have such easy access to the healing power of essential oils. I'd be a mess without
them!
Please remember not to stop any prescription medications that you are taking. It is important
to always check with your primary doctor before you stop or lower your dosage on prescription drugs.
Here are some of the more common prblems we use over-the-counter medicines that I have replaced with
essential oils:
- To lower a fever: Take 3 drops of Peppermint essential oil and rub it on each foot.
I've used this remedy many times to lower fevers and it works like a charm. Especially on children.
But if your child is under 2, please dilute the essential oil in a carrier oil such as an organic
olive oil. 1 part essential oil to 10 parts carrier oil.
Besides fevers, peppermint essential oil is also good for headaches, stuffy noses, upset
stomachs, focus and concentration and taking the itch out of insect bites. A bottle of peppermint
essential oil can replace as many as 6 over-the-counter medicines.
- For allergies: Rub a drop or two of Lavender essential oil on your cheeks and under your nose to
help clear allergic symptoms, such as sneezing, stuffy nose and watery eyes. Lavender essential oil
is a natural antihistamine and it's also a great stress-reliever. It helps to calm the body
and mind when inhaled. It also cleanses cuts and wounds, prevents scaring from burns and helps
heal sunburn. Having a bottle of lavender essential oil on hand can replace quite a
few common medications.
- For Joint Pain: Rub a few drops of an essential oil blend called PanAway on sore joints,
as needed. This blend has helped me with back pain more times than I can count! PanAway essential
oil blend contains; wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens), helichrysum (Helichrysum italicum),
clove (Syzygium aromaticum) and peppermint (Mentha piperita.)
This blend is also helpful to relieve muscle soreness associated with exercising.
By using PanAway, you're able to replace over-the-counter muscle rubs and even common
pain reliever pills.
The beauty of using therapeutic grade essential oils is that you are able to get the same results,
as if you were using common medications, but without the side effects. Please remember that
when you are using essential oils as medicine, use ONLY therapeutic grade oils.
As your use and knowledge of essential oils and of aromatherapy expands, you will
find the landswcape of your medicine cabeinet changing dramatically for the better.
